"Stepping Up and Stepping Out!"

We are Stepping up to Volunteer and Stepping Out Into Our Community to Promote Growth in Membership!

The GFWC Fuquay-Varina Junior Woman's Club is an organization whose members are dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. The club is an affiliate organization of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), which has been involved in volunteer service for over 100 years. GFWC FV Junior Woman's Club's direct leadership comes from GFWC of North Carolina (GFWC-NC). Within the state, GFWC FV JWC is in District 6.

History

The GFWC-FV Junior Woman's Club was chartered in July 1987 with 19 members. The first project was the "Beautiful Baby Contest" at the Two Flags Over Fuquay-Varina Celebration. More than $700 was raised and donated to the March of Dimes. Today, there are 20 members and the major fund raising event is the Annual Charity Ball held in November. The club completes many projects during the year with the club's six departments providing focus. Check out our Projects and Pictures page to see what we have been up to this year.

Membership

Any woman of the age 18-40 is eligible to become a member of the GFWC FV Junior Woman's Club. See how to join.

Meetings

General club meetings are held on the first Monday night of every month (September-May) at the Woman's Club House on Ennis Street in Fuquay-Varina. Meetings begin with a social at 7:00 pm, continue with a program at 7:15 and a business meeting at 8:00. Visitors are welcome. Since the first Monday of September is Labor Day, this meeting is held the last Monday of August.

Fundraisers

Our largest fundraiser each year is the Charity Ball in November. We have also held golf tournaments, sold BBQ and other fundraisers. Money from our fundraisers cover our fixed budget (scholarships, department projects, etc) as well as other programs outside of the club that may need help at that time.

In the past we have donated to FV Emergency Food Pantry, FV Parks and Recreation, Ronald McDonald House, FV Youth Initiative, Teacher Grants, Operation Smile, NC Aquariums, NC Museum of Natural History, Interact Battered Women’s Shelter.

Involvement with State & National Organization

Being involved with a national organization offers benefits to our members and our community.

For example, our college scholarship winner goes on to complete in our 9 county District competition. If they win there, they go on to State competition.

Winners (school children and clubwomen) from our local arts festival go on to compete at District, State and National levels.

Members attend meetings at District, State and National levels to learn, share ideas and form friendships. Members have the opportunity grow their leadership skill by holding office at these different levels.
